End Of The Road

And you read your Emily Dickinson
And I my Robert Frost
And we note our place with bookmarkers
To measure what we've lost                                                        (P. Simon)

  1. Was Paul Simon referring to the demise of giant corporations that put mom and pop stores out of business a decade ago when he wrote that?

Because I'm confused about what you're trying to say in this post. You seem to be lamenting the loss of a retail giant, which just seems rather at odds with the quote in question.

  2. No, I don't think that was what was on his mind in this song. I posted those lyrics with this photo because of the references to Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost, and measuring what we've lost. It wasn't meant to be any deeper than that. Just a rather sad reference to a rather sad event, in my opinion. I liked going to Borders occasionally. Now I can't. That's all.
